Sympathies: We were saddened to learn of the death of Joe Ryan (Malachy) formerly of Ballymackeogh and Birdhill who has died in Australia. Joe played hurling and football with Newport in the 1950s, and was full forward on the team which won the county Junior Hurling title in 1957. Having emigrated during the 60s he returned in the early 70s to don the Newport colours again and played in the county senior hurling semi-final in 1973. Taking up residence in Birdhill he and his family ran the White Cockatoo (now Coopers). His sons lined out with various under-age teams until they all left for Australia in the mid1980s.To his family and friends we extend our sympathies. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a anam.

Poker Classic: Our annual fund raising Poker Classic will take place in the Freigh Inn on April 30th at 6pm. Tickets €20.
