Under 9: We travelled to Dublin last Sunday to participate in the Kilmacud tournament. Our Blues team played James Stephens, Dunboyne and Kilmacud in the group matches and got through to a final where they lost out against a very good Roanmore team. The Red team also got to their final after playing Athenry, Naas and Kilmacud. In the final against James Stephens they lost out by just one point in a match that could have gone either way. All the players did Tulach Sheasta proud and the future is bright for this team. Big thanks to all the support we got today. The Kilmacud people definitely knew the Newport supporters are a passionate bunch. Two squads were as follows:
Blue team - Aaron Lane, Benji Morgan, Cathal Ryan, Cillian Healy, Darragh McNamara, Fionn Deegan, Harry McKeogh, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Lucas Wright, Stephen O'Brien, Jack Powell

Red Team:  Aoibheann Collins, Cathal McNamara, Charlie Tobin, Conor McLoughlin, Cormac Shanahan, Eric Bates, Harry Noone, Luke McIntyre, Micheal Shanahan, Ollie Roche, Ryan O'Donnell & Conor Ryan.

Under 10s: Last Saturday our U-10 hurlers took part in a Munster Blitz in Thurles. We had 3 great games versus Fr. O’Neill’s from Cork, Clooney Quin from Clare and Roanmore from Waterford. Our lads hurled very well in all 3 games and as usual this year showed a great standard and great heart and determination. We have had a great year with these boys, and hope to see them all on the hurling wall over the winter. Well done to the lads, and thanks again to all the parents for their support over the year. Tulach Sheasta abú.  Panel in Thurles was Aaron O'Flaherty, Brian McCabe, Cillian Collins, Conor Sweeney, Dara McGrath, Eamon Walsh, Harry Lee, Liam Coffey, Luke Fitzgerald, Ryan Shinnors, Sam Caplis, Thomas Ryan and Zack Mooney.

Under 8’S: The U8's hurling and football season finished last Thursday evening, with a match V the coaches and the 8’s enjoyed a very exciting win. Last Sunday we welcomed the current All Ireland Senior Hurling Club champions Cuala to Lacken Park for a hurling & football blitz. All our players put in fantastic performances, putting all the skills they learned during the year to good use on the field of play.
Thank you to the parents and the players for their support and participation during a great year.
Mile Buiochas to manager Alfie O’ Brien and coaches Richie Ryan, Declan Carrig, Ger Gaffney, Ger O’ Donohoe, Thomas Ryan, Paraic Kennedy & John Berkery for giving of their time and energy all year.

Under 9s: We had a busy weekend playing Parteen in Lacken Park last Saturday morning and Cuala on Sunday morning in Lacken Park. Next Sunday we are off to Dublin to play in the Kilmacud tournament, which will involve teams from all over the country.

James O'Rourke Tournament: The annual James O'Rourke memorial Gaelic Football tournament was held in Lacken Park recently. On a wet and blustery day, a fine feast of football was served up by the participating teams.  The tournament consisted of an U-12 Cup and an U-11 Shield.  In the U-12 cup, there were four teams with Moyle Rovers, Monaleen, Ballina and Newport taking part. Despite the very blustery conditions a very competitive round robin series took place with Moyle Rovers and Monaleen qualifying for the final. Despite the conditions a competitive final took place with Moyle Rovers emerging as winners. In the U-11 Shield Ballinahinch, Sean Treacy’s and two Newport teams took part.  All teams played each other in the round robin stage of the tournament with both Newport teams coming out on top which resulted in the shield going to Newport.  Well done to all the teams for taking part in the tournament which again was a great success. Many thanks to all those who helped on the day and to the O'Rourke family for being present to present the trophies.

Under 21: Best of luck to the players and their mentors in the North championship as they play Ballinahinch/Templederry in Dolla this Sunday at 12 noon.

Under 7: The U7 hurling and football season concluded last Saturday 30th September.  The last 3 weeks have been very exciting with the players taking part in a guard of honour and a half time blitz for the Newport and Silvermines senior teams for the county league final, followed by a football blitz in Portroe the following week.

To round off our Season, we have been running a skills competition with the players at training for a number of weeks.  They have all worked extremely hard on their hurling and football skills and were rewarded with special medals during our final session.

Over 30 children took part in 2 great games and demonstrated all their skills to the large gathering of parents that came to support.  After the game, our club senior captain and former Tipp star Conor O Mahony presented all the players with their medals for completing all their skills and for their excellent year’s work.  It was a great morning and the party bags were enjoyed A special thanks to Conor for his time.

The coaching team would like to thank all the parents and players for their support and participation during a great year.  We are very proud of the excellent facilities we have and support we receive in our club.

A big thank you to Alfie O’ Brien who has been a great support all year in helping to ensure the large number of U7's were included in U8 blitzes and in helping arrange local blitzes as well as offering advice along the way.

Míle Buíochas to the manager Mike Coffey (Red) and mentors Brian Healy, David Troy, Sinead O Mahony, Marie O Mahony, Mike Coffey(Shower), Mike Boland, Connor Gleeson John Landers, Kerrie Crowley, David Sadlier, Garry O Callaghan, John Berkery and Jordan Young for giving so much of their time and energy with this group.

We plan to hold some workshops over the winter and will keep parents posted on these dates.

Under 8’s; Our Under 8’s had two teams in Newtownshandrum, Cork for a hurling blitz under lights last Friday evening. We played teams from Newtownshandrum and Milford of Cork, Ahane & Murroe / Boher from Limerick and Holycross also from Tipp.
The players played some excellent hurling in some very competitive matches.

They really enjoyed the experience of playing their 1st match under lights. A big thank you to Newtownshandrum for the invite & organising a brilliant night's hurling.
Our next blitz is v Cuala from Dublin on Sunday Oct 8th in Lacken Park

Under 11: Our two U-11 teams made their respective divisional hurling league finals which were played in Nenagh last Friday evening. The Purple team played Lorrha having beaten them 3 weeks earlier in the league.  Lorrha hit the ground running and were a formidable team with whom Tulach Sheasta could not get to grips.  Despite a much improved second half performance from the lads, Lorrha finished out to deservedly win the final.  Our Gold team played a very strong Nenagh team in the other final and while the boys put in a great effort, Nenagh won the game.  Both teams deserve great credit for making the finals and while we didn't win the silverware this time it bodes well for the future of our club hurling.

Junior: Our junior hurlers defeated Silvermines in the North Championship semi-final last Saturday. Final score Tulach Sheasta 2-13 Silvermines 1-11. They will meet Lorrha in the North final.

Under 7 and 8: Our under 7's and 8's had four teams in Portroe for their final football blitz of the season last Saturday morning. They played teams from Portroe, Nenagh & Kiladangan. Well done to all the players who played brilliantly throughout all their games and demonstrated all the skills they had learned since the start of the season.
The under 8's still have two hurling blitzes to play before the end of the season. Next up this Friday evening we travel to Newtownshandrum to play under lights and finish with a home blitz with Cuala on Sunday Oct 8th

Under 10s played in a blitz in Croom last Saturday. Despite a very strong wind, the boys improved with each game, winning their last match.

Well done, to all the players for giving it their all. A big thanks to Croom for holding the event and for the parents who came out to support us on the day.

Under 11: The Gold team had a tough assignment last Friday evening against a skilful Toomevara team in the U11 hurling league.

Tulach Sheasta started well but ended up 2-1 to 1-0 down at half time.
A massive effort in the second half saw our boys take the lead with a goal leaving the score 3-2 To 2-3 with 3 mins to go.  The boys defended with their lives and despite huge pressure from Toomevara, we held on for a great victory. Well done to all the players and the supporters who as always gave great encouragement to the team.

Sympathy: CLG Tulach Sheasta extends sympathy to the family and friends of Mick Caplis, Cooleen, Birdhill who died at the weekend.

Mick's death severs the last surviving link with the Mulcaire Rovers championship-winning team of 1947. He donned the Newport colours in the '50s and was a member of the team which won the county junior hurling title in 1957. He continued to play into the 1960s and was renowned as a strong and wiry defender. He maintained an avid interest in the game of hurling and even up to recent months would engage anyone he met in discussing the fortunes and prospects of Newport and Tipperary teams.

Under 6’s: We played a blitz in Ballina last Saturday morning with teams from Nenagh Éire Óg, Ballina and Smith O’Brien’s. Our 26 players had an early start with a 10am throw in. They all accounted for themselves very well and are a credit to the club and parents.   Our sincere thanks to Ballina for the refreshments in the club afterwards.

Under 7’s: The squad formed a guard of honour before the senior’s County Hurling League Final v Silvermines in Lacken Park last Saturday evening and at half time they played a display game of hurling amongst themselves in front of all the supporters.

Thank you to all the lads who participated in the event and enjoyed the experience and thank you to all the parents for your continued support.

Under 10s: Congratulations to our U-10 hurlers who had a great day in the annual Wolfe Tones Shannon U10 Hurling Tournament. They showed great heart and skill in coming out on top in three games versus Smith O’ Brien’s, Wolfe Tones and a very good Newmarket team in the final. Our under 9s also entered the tournament and performed excellently against teams a year older than themselves. Well done to all who took part and thanks to Wolfe Tones for the invitation.
U10 panel was Conor Nolan, Eamon Walsh, Conor Sweeney, Zack Mooney, Cillian Collins, Liam Coffey, Eamon Coffey, Brian McCabe, Harry Lee, Dara McGrath, Darragh Mackey, Tom Ryan, Sam Caplis, Ronan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Shinnors.

Under 11’s: Last Friday both our U-11 teams were out in the hurling league.  The purple team travelled to Puckane where they played a very strong Kiladangan team. Newport settled well and took an early lead but Kiladangan fought back and were one point up at half time.  In a thrilling second half both teams had the lead at different times but as the game entered injury time Newport who were one point down conjured up a fantastic goal to win by 2 points. Well done to both teams who served up a really great competitive game.
Our Gold team took on Nenagh in Lacken Park in a game that didn't go our way. A strong Nenagh team got the better of us in what was a first defeat in the hurling league for the Gold team. We were extremely competitive in the game and are still very much in the shake up as the league nears its conclusion.  Thanks to all the parents who supported both teams.

Under 13’s: We played last Wednesday evening in the U-13s plate against Portroe, winning on a score line of 5-8 to 2-5 to Tulach Sheasta. Well done to all and a big thanks to all the parents for supporting the team.

Under 14’s: Our U-14 team defeated Sean Treacy’s to win the plate.
Well done to all the team for their great efforts on the day.

Senior: Our Senior hurlers were defeated by Silvermines, in the County league final last Saturday evening in Lacken Park. Final score Tulach Sheasta 1-13 Silvermines 0-25.
