Newport's Under 7s and Under 8s took part in a Hurling Blitz in Nenagh on Saturday.

Six teams participated against six Nenagh teams.  Great morning had by all. Thanks to Nenagh Eire Óg for their hospitality.

Under 12: Tulach Sheasta Arrows played Toomevara last Friday night in Lacken Park. This turned out to be an absorbing contest with both teams giving it their all. Toomevara came out on top on a score line of 4.5 to 1.0. Well done to the Arrows on a mature and dedicated performance.

Tulach Sheasta Colts played Roscrea last Thursday in Roscrea, it was a very good tough physical match but in the end Roscrea came up tops. Thanks for all the parents and children for going to Roscrea. We now play Ballina next Monday evening at 7 o'clock in Lacken Park, a must win match.

On Friday night Tulach Sheasta Dynamos played Toomevara at Lacken Park.

The game was played at a high tempo throughout and despite some excellent play and heroic defending Newport came out on the losing end. Well done to all the players for a great effort on the night.

On the resumption the Mines were quicker out of the blocks and scored 2.3 without reply, a lead they held on to until the final whistle. Final Score Silvermines 3.15 to Newport 14 points

We went on a tour of Croke Park in the afternoon which was really enjoyed by children and adults. Thanks to all 70 players and parents who came along to make it such an enjoyable day.

U-12 Newport Arrows Hurlers played Moneygall last Friday evening in Moneygall.
This turned out to be a very evenly contested match, but goals from Brian and James Tobin, Bryan Nolan and Dara Kennedy proved decisive with Newport coming out on top 4-04 to 1-07. Well done to all the players and thanks to our supporters in Moneygall.

Congratulations to Mike Flannery who won the County Senior Poc Fada last Saturday in Ballingarry.

Well done to Shaun Bonfield who represented club and County in the half time game at Páirc Uí Rinn last Saturday evening during the Munster senior football semi-final.

Under 6: Our youngest players took part in their first hurling and football blitz at Eire Óg Nenagh last Saturday. Newport, Ballina, Nenagh and Kilruane McDonagh’s entered 5 six aside teams on the day. 32 players donned the Newport jersey for the first time on the field of play & did the club proud. A special thanks to Nenagh Eire Óg for hosting the event and thank you to all parents for getting our U-6’s to Nenagh. Training for our U6’s continues every Thursday 7pm and Saturday 10am in Newport CLG @ Lacken Park.

Under 8. We had 3 teams in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday morning. They played teams from Na Piarsaigh & Killmallock. The children really enjoyed their mornings hurling. Thanks to all the parents who brought their children along for the blitz.

County Blitz: Newport had 3 teams playing between the U-9s and U-10s at the U-10 County Blitz in Borrisoleigh. This was a great turnout from players and supporters. U-9s also had a match v Monaleen in Lacken Park last Thursday evening.
There was some great hurling from both sides so well done to all and thanks to all who supported the teams.

U-9 and U-10s played a blitz in Clonlara last Saturday morning. We had a great turnout and the lads enjoyed some very competitive matches with Clonlara. The U9 and U10’s are off to Dublin next Saturday morning. They are playing matches with All Ireland Club champions Cuala in the morning and then heading for a tour of Croke Park in the afternoon. We hope everyone has a fun day.

Under 10: Newport participated in the recent Noel Sheedy Memorial U10 Hurling Tournament in Killaloe, organised by Smith O'Brien’s GAA Club. In our first match, versus the hosts, we started slowly, but recovered very well to play some great hurling, losing out 4-4 to 2-4 at the final whistle. In our second game, we faced Ogonnolloe/Scariff and in a very tight game we came out the right side of a 1-3 to 1-2 score line.
These results meant all 3 teams in the group finished level, and we qualified for the B final, missing the A final by a single point scored. In the B Final, we met neighbours Ballina, and in a great game we emerged victorious 2-6 to 1-2, with Cormac Shanahan named player of the final. Thanks very much to Smith O’Brien’s for inviting us to a very well organised tournament and to the other teams for great games. Thank you to the parents for coming along and supporting the lads. Finally, a very well done to all the lads who represented our club so well today.

Team: Cillian Collins, Conor Sweeney, Dara McGrath, Donnacha Colgan, Brian McCabe, Harry Lee, Fionn Deegan, Conor McLoughlin, Luke McIntyre, Conor Nolan, Conor Ryan, Eamon Walsh, Darragh Mackey, Tom Ryan, Sam Caplis, Cormac Shanahan, Ollie Roche, Ryan Shinnors
