Congratulations to Mike Flannery who won the County Senior Poc Fada last Saturday in Ballingarry.

Well done to Shaun Bonfield who represented club and County in the half time game at Páirc Uí Rinn last Saturday evening during the Munster senior football semi-final.

Under 6: Our youngest players took part in their first hurling and football blitz at Eire Óg Nenagh last Saturday. Newport, Ballina, Nenagh and Kilruane McDonagh’s entered 5 six aside teams on the day. 32 players donned the Newport jersey for the first time on the field of play & did the club proud. A special thanks to Nenagh Eire Óg for hosting the event and thank you to all parents for getting our U-6’s to Nenagh. Training for our U6’s continues every Thursday 7pm and Saturday 10am in Newport CLG @ Lacken Park.

Under 8. We had 3 teams in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday morning. They played teams from Na Piarsaigh & Killmallock. The children really enjoyed their mornings hurling. Thanks to all the parents who brought their children along for the blitz.

County Blitz: Newport had 3 teams playing between the U-9s and U-10s at the U-10 County Blitz in Borrisoleigh. This was a great turnout from players and supporters. U-9s also had a match v Monaleen in Lacken Park last Thursday evening.
There was some great hurling from both sides so well done to all and thanks to all who supported the teams.

The U9 and U10’s are off to Dublin next Saturday morning. They are playing matches with All Ireland Club champions Cuala in the morning and then heading for a tour of Croke Park in the afternoon. We hope everyone has a fun day.

Under 10: Newport participated in the recent Noel Sheedy Memorial U10 Hurling Tournament in Killaloe, organised by Smith O'Brien’s GAA Club. In our first match, versus the hosts, we started slowly, but recovered very well to play some great hurling, losing out 4-4 to 2-4 at the final whistle. In our second game, we faced Ogonnolloe/Scariff and in a very tight game we came out the right side of a 1-3 to 1-2 score line.
These results meant all 3 teams in the group finished level, and we qualified for the B final, missing the A final by a single point scored. In the B Final, we met neighbours Ballina, and in a great game we emerged victorious 2-6 to 1-2, with Cormac Shanahan named player of the final. Thanks very much to Smith O’Brien’s for inviting us to a very well organised tournament and to the other teams for great games. Thank you to the parents for coming along and supporting the lads.
