Juveniles
  • Our Under 8’s took part in a Hurling Blitz last Saturday morning V Ballina and really enjoyed their games.
  • Our under 10’s have being invited to take part in The Centra skills day in Semple Stadium Thurles next Saturday morning where there will be some county stars past & present on hand to coach the children.
  • Both of our Under 12 Hurling teams lost their North Hurling Semi Finals last weekend after putting in great performances. Our Newport Gaels team was beaten by Moneygall on a scoreline of 4-07 to 2-04 in Group B. The Mulcair Rovers team were beaten by Silvermines on a scoreline of 4-4 to 1-03 in Group D. We would like to thank both the players and mentors of both teams for all their  hard work during the year and the club is delighted with the progress both teams have made this year. 
  • Our under 14 hurlers play their North Hurling Semi Final v Shannon Rovers / Lorrha in Lorrha this Thursday evening August 13th @ 7:30.
  • Our under 16 hurlers played their final group match v  Ballina on Monday evening in Lacken Park,  a game they had to win to stay in the championship. The result was not available at time of going to press.

Minor Hurling
Our Minor hurlers, Newport Gaels, have qualified for the North Semi Final after a hard earned 4.18 to 2.15 victory over Borrisoleigh in their final group game last Wednesday night. With the result in the melting pot up to the last few minutes, two late goals sealed victory for us. We now await the results from the two quarter finals to see who our opponents will be. Best of luck to our panel member Davy Gleeson and the rest of the Tipp Minor Hurling squad in their All Ireland Semi Final against Dublin next Sunday.

 Summer Camp
Cul Camp is on all this week in Lacken Park from 10:00AM to 2:30 PM each day with over 200 children attending.
Cardiac Screening
Cardiac Screening can help prevent Sudden Adult Death Syndrome ( SADS) ,which sadly up 100 young people die  in Ireland each year from. Advanced Medical Systems will be holding a cardiac screening clinic in The Clubhouse at Lacken Park on Saturday August 29th from 9:30 AM to 4:45 pm.
The GAA recommends cardiac screening for all players aged over 14. If you wish to avail of this service you can book an appointment by contacting Advanced Medical Systems on 1890 300 333 or by logging onto www.ameds.ie and click on ‘book a Cardiac Sports Screening’ and using the password Newport. 
The cost is € 65 per person. This service is free to all LAYA Health Insurance members and if you have health insurance with another insurer you will need to check individually with your insurer if it is covered.

Junior Hurlers.
Our juniors were unlucky to lose by one point to Moneygall in the final group match in the championship on Friday last. They will still qualify for the north semi final on a date to be confirmed.
