Our U14 footballers travelled to Borrisoleigh and came away with a 3 point win on a score of 4-4 to 3-4. This win ensures a semi-final place and our opposition will be known this week.
Newport Gaels U16's will contest the A football final on Thursday evening at 7pm in Dolla where Kilruane will be the opposition. We have qualified for the final thanks to a hard fought win over Inane Rovers last week. This should be a cracker as Kilruane have already beaten us by just 2 points in the pool stages. Best of luck to all.
The Newport/Ballinahinch minor footballers have reached the North final where they will meet Balllina. This was a very tight group with points difference deciding the final standings between Newport, Ballina & Inane. The final probably wont happen untill after the exams.
Under 21 Football.
Pride of place this week goes to the Newport/Ballinahinch U21 footballers who were victorious in the County B final when they beat Upperchurch/Drombane last Saturday evening on a score of 1-6 to 0-7. Captain Joe Conneely has the honour of bringing the cup back to this side of the county for the first time. Newport & Ballinahinch provided an equal number of players and the management and players alike are thrilled with the joint effort. The victorious team consisted of RJ Ryan, Paddy Kelly, Joe Conneely (Capt ), Rob Houlihan, Conor Floyd, John Ryan Bán, James O Connor, Kevin Mucahy, Martin Carey, Pa Ryan, Odhran Floyd, Aidan Moloney 0-1, Brendan Ryan, Pa Floyd 1-0 and Darragh McGrath 0-5. Subs used were Dave Ryan, Blaine Lenihan & Frank Troy. Well done to all.
Congrats to Thomas Floyd & Emma Flanagan who have made the Primary Game panel in Hurlng and Camogie and best of luck to Ellen McKeogh who is still involved in the Gaelic football selection process. Last week, Birdhill NS played a very strong Kilbarron side and were unlucky to lose out. They next meet Toomevara. Meanwhile Newport BNS will play Ballinree in the next round of the championship. Also last week St Marys TY students Liam Duffy, Michael Quigley & Daniel Delaney completed their coaching course under the guidance of Tadgh O Connor. The Convent NS 1st class pupils kindly attended as the players to be coached and our club boys gladly rose to the challenge. Lets hope they continue coaching with Tulach Sheasta in the future !
