An initiative to prepare a five-year plan for Newport GAA Club was formally initiated at a well-attended public meeting at Newport College last week in which there was strong participation from the community.
The Club hosted the forum on Friday night to seek views from the community as to how they would like to see the club develop over the next five years. The event was very well supported and the views of everyone ranging from minor to the most senior members of the community were aired.
All the views submitted are now being collated and five distinct topics have been identified for discussion, including games development, facilities, communications, structures and fundraising.
A working group has now been convened in respect of each topic and they will meet again this Sat night  with a view to making a final submission which will later be presented to the club membership.
Youth Forum
Meanwhile, the youth of the area are being given their chance to voice their opinion. St Mary's Transition Year students, Michael Quigley, Liam Duffy and Daniel Delaney, along with Chairperson, Conor Floyd, are busy assembling their input for the Youth Forum which will take place on Sun 3rd February at 5pm. All interested in GAA activities (from 14 to 18 years) are welcome to attend, including the camogie and handball clubs.
