Our U16's have had mixed fortunes recently beginning with the U16A Co Football final. On Saturday last we travelled to Clonoulty to play Clonmel Commercials. Unfortunately they were much too strong and experienced for a young Newport side. Following that, we immediately reverted to the Nth hurling championship away to Toomevara and were beaten again. On Friday last we entertained Roscrea at home and availed of a chance to banish the blues by recording a big win over Roscrea. This means that we have qualified for the quarters at least, with an outside chance of making the semis directly. Our final pool game is Friday next versus Borrisokane.

Newport Gaels minor hurlers played out a cracking game last week at home to Roscrea. With a drawn game (3-17 to 4-14) Newport earned a point when 2 were needed. We must now travel to Toomevara on Wednesday (this week ) needing a win to qualify.

Cul Camp
Last week Newport held the annual Cul Camp which, over the years has become the largest Camp in Tipp. This year was no different as we had 176 participants who, with the exception of one day were lucky with the weather. Great credit is due to all the organisers, particularly Alfie O Brien who co-ordinated the event. Tipp player Kieran Bergin visited the camp and entertained all our players with his participation. Roll on next year !
