  • To the Newport/Ballinahinch U14 Camogie Team, who are now both Tipperary County and Feile All Ireland winners in the A Division. This is a magnificent achievement and well done to the team and management.
  • To Aoife Shinnors on scoring the winning point in the All Ireland Intermediate camogie championship 2012 round 3 (Tipperary 0-12 Kilkenny 1-08)
  • To Mary & Angela Mulcahy Ballyhane, Birdhill on winning €200 in the first weekly members draw held on 6/7/2012.
  • To Conor and the Tipp team on becoming Munster champions. It was a great match and they were very deserving winners. Best of luck with the prep for the next big game!
We had a disappointing end to our school year when the Newport Boys School Tournament on June 21st had to be postponed at the last minute due to bad weather that week.  An 8am pitch inspection by Mr. Skehan and Mr McCormick deemed the juvenile pitch unplayable. It was decided then not to go with a scaled down event as the same schools were due to play in both the junior and senior competitions and this would have been logistically difficult to organise at short notice. We hope to play this tournament in Sept. with the same 8 schools involved.  Joe Floyd and Birdhill N.S. were very disappointed as they felt they had a very good chance of retaining their title.  A decision will be made early in to when this event will take place.

Under 14

Our U14 hurlers, Newport Gaels, had another good win away to Moneygall recently and have now qualified for the Semi Final of the championship. They have one group match remaining against Kilruane which will be played in Newport this Wednesday (18th) night.
We had three players on the Tipperary U14 Football Team that were unlucky to lose out to South Kerry in the annual Jim Power Memorial Tournament held in Dungarvan last Saturday. Dara Carroll, Kealan Floyd and Jack Delahunty were the Newport players involved. They topped their group with wins over North Kerry, Waterford and Cork to set up a final meeting with South Kerry. The sides finished level after full time and again after extra time. Unfortunately the Kerry boys emerged victorious after a penalty shoot out. Well done to the lads who gave great performances on the day.
