County Champions
Pride of place this week must go to our Under 14 Footballers.
Well done to the Newport Gaels team that won the U14 A County Football Title in fine style with a 7-10 to 2-4 victory over JK Brackens in Dundrum last Saturday. This was the culmination of a great campaign that saw them play some very attractive football with scores aplenty. On the day JK Brackens started brightly with the opening 2 points, but once Newport got into their stride the Mid champions had no answer and were trailing by 3-7 to 0-2 at half time. Newport maintained their dominance on the scoreboard in the second half with four more goals to kill off the game. To their credit JK Brackens never gave up and were rewarded with 2 late goals. After the game the cup was presented to team captain Jack Delahunty. Well done to all concerned in this great success for the local boys. The team was a follows - Jonathan Coyle, Cathal Floyd, Sean Moloney, Paul Hogan, Cian Flanagan, Corie Mooney, Harry Sheehy, Dara Carroll (0-2), Jack Delahunty (0-3), Colin Floyd, Kealan Floyd (2-1), Kevin Connolly (0-3), Tiernan Ryan, Michael Gorman (3-1), Aron O'Neill (1-0). Subs - Kieran Ryan (1-0), Sean Belfry, Niall Harrington, Dade Rictar and Jack Connolly.
The team would like to thank John Sheridan of Premier Digital (for all your Sky and Saorview requirements) for his generous sponsorship of Polo Shirts for the occasion and also to Harry Murphy of Newport Motors for his sponsorship of a set of Jerseys. Attention now switches to hurling and lets hope for further success for this talented bunch of lads.
