Under 13 Hurling: Hard luck to our Under 13 Hurlers who lost their North Under 13 B Plate Hurling  Semi Final v Moneygall last Sunday on a score line of 1-06 to 1-03.

Under 11 Hurling Plate: We had three teams in action in this competition last Saturday morning in Lacken Park. The Under 11 Group A team lost out to Toomevara on a scoreloine of 8-09 to 6-06. The Group C team were beaten by a very good Shannon Rovers team by 4-07 to 3-01. The Group D team were beaten by Toomevara by 0-02 to 0-01. The Group A & C  teams both have their final group matches this Wednesday evening away v Borrisoleigh @ 7:00 PM & Templederry @ 6:45 PM  respectively.

Kilmacud Crokes All Ireland Under 11’s: Two under 11 teams travelled to Dublin on Sunday for the annual Kilmacud Crokes All Ireland Festival of Hurling. The A team recorded victories over Buffer’s Alley (Wexford), Douglas (Cork) & Tramore (Waterford) in their group matches before losing out to Craughhwell ( Galway ) in the final on a scoreline of 2-07 to 2-02. The B team won their group matches v  Tramore (Waterford), Douglas (Cork) & Kilmacud Crokes and went on to win their final v Sarsfields (Cork) by 5-02 to 1-02.  The children really enjoyed their day in Dublin & a big thank you to Kilmacud Crokes for the invite & organising a great day’s hurling.

Seniors: Hard luck to our Senior Hurlers who lost out to Holycross/Ballycahill in Dundrum last Saturday in their final group game in The Seamus O Riain Cup on a scoreline of 1-18 to 1-17. We would like to thank all the players & the management team for their hard work & dedication this year.

Under 14: Hard luck to our Under 14 team who were beaten by Portroe in the North C final last Tuesday evening in a very competitive & excitinhg final by 7-06 to 6-06. We would like to thank all players & management for all their hard work they put in during the year.

Under 13 Hurling Plate: Our under 13 Group B team had a great win over Moneygall last Sunday evening coming from 9 points down at half time to win on a scoreline of 4-08 to 4-07. They have  their final group match in this competition v Kildangan on Tuesday evening of this week.

Under 11 Hurling Plate: We had two teams in action in this competition this week. The Under 11 Group A team had a good win over Kilruane on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-07. The Group C team drew with Portroe in their game.  All teams are in action this week with their final group games due to be played this Saturday morning. The Group A team are away to Toomevara @ 10:00. The Group C  & D teams have home games v Shannon Rovers & Toomevara @ 10:00 & 11:00 respectively.

Under  9’s & 10’s:  enjoyed a great days hurling in Ballina on Sunday in the John Joe Nevin & Des Nevin Tournaments competing against teams from Ballina, Smith O’Briens Killaloe, Clonlara, Ahane & Murroe/Boher. The Under 10’s won the B Final v Smith O’Briens.  We had two under 9 teams in the competition. The ‘Sharks’ team won a very exciting A Final v Clonlara by a single point. The ‘Tigers Team won the C Final V Ballina. A big thank you to Ballina Club for the invite & for organising a fantastic day’s hurling for all the children. It was really appreciated by both parents & children.

Wheelchair Hurling : is coming to Tipperary on Saturday 14th Sept. It will take place at St Mary's Secondary School Newport Co Tipperary. Every year each of the provinces hosts a round of the League competition and this years Munster leg is being held in Newport.  Each of the 4 provinces will have a team taking part . The opening ceremony will take place at 10.30a.m with games commencing at 11a.m. In June this year 12 wheelchair hurlers (3 from each province) represented Ireland at the International Floorball competition competing against 9 other nations. This was a fantastic experience for the wheelchair hurlers.

The Munster team is made up of players from Clare, Limerick and Kerry. Training takes place once a week in Limerick . We would be delighted to have players from Tipperary. If you know of any wheelchair user that might be interested let them know about the event in Newport and they can get further details about Wheelchair hurling from Gerry McNamara 085 1901900 or Dave Fitzgerald 083 8168143.

The GAA at Croke Park and Munster GAA are fully supportive of wheelchair hurling and have recognised it as part of the GAA's Games for all programme.

 

Dawn to Dusk training session: in aid of Nutrture Africa is been hosted by the club this Sunday in Lacken Park by our senior hurler Odran Floyd. All age groups in the club are taking part in order to raise funds for this very worthy cause on this Sunday Sept. 15th from  7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Seniors: We would like to wish our Senior Hurlers the very best of luck in their final group match in he Seamus O'Riain Cup v Holycross/Ballycahill in Dundrum this Saturday @ 2:00 PM. Your support for the team on the day would be greatly appreciated.

Under 14s: Our second under 14 team played Portroe in the North 'C' Hurling Final on this Monday evening. After a close contest, they were unlucky to lose out on a 7-6 to 6-6 scoreline.

Under 13 Hurling Plate: Both of our under 13 teams were in action last week in the under 13 Plate. Unfortunalely despite putting in two great performances both teams lost out in the end. Our Group B team were beaten by Lorrha by 5 points & the Group C team lost to Kilruane by 2 points.

Under 11 Hurling Plate:  All three teams were in action last Thursday evening. The Group C team had a good win over Nenagh. The Group C Team got the better of Borrisoleigh in a thrilling encounter winning on a scoreline of 3-05 to 3-04. The Group D team lost out to Nenagh in what for the majority of players was there first competitive match in a Newport jersey.

Under  9’s & 10’s: hosted a blitz on Saturday morning in Lacken Park with teams from Kilruane & Doon taking part. All teams put in great performances & enjoyed their morning's hurling. A big thank you to both clubs for travelling & to the parents who helped out with the catering. It was really appreciated.

Under 7’s & 8’s:  Travelled to Cloughjordan for a hurling Blitz hosted by Kilruane. The children played some fantastic hurling and really enjoyed their morning. Thanks to Kilruane for the invite and hospitality after.

Sympathies: C.L.G. Tulach Sheasta would like to extend deepest sympathies to the Ryan (Lacken) family on the recent passing of Milo in Dublin. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a anam.

Golf Classic: The Senior Club will be holding their annual golf classic this Friday August 30th in Nenagh Golf Club. If anyone still wishes to enter a team at a cost of € 150 for a team of three please contact James Collins on 087 2310229.

Seniors: The seniors will play their final group game of The Seamus O Riain Cup V Holycross Ballycahill on Friday Sept 6th @ 6:30 PM in Borrisoleigh.

Under 14s: had a busy day on Saturday. They took part in a hurling tournament hosted by Bruff GAA & then it was off to the Gaelic Grounds to cheer on Tipperary to a great victory in The Under 20’s All Ireland Hurling Final.

Under 13B Hurling Plate: The Under 13 hurlers battled in very difficult conditions to record a good win away to Roscrea last Tuesday evening by 1-09 to 2-02.

Under 11 Hurling Plate: We had two teams in action in the under 11 Plate competition last Thursday evening. The Group A team won away to Ballina by 4-07 to 2-06. The Group B team won their home game V Lorrha by 3-05 to 2-04.

Under 10’s: Played Murroe Boher in a hurling blitz last Saturday morning & played some great hurling in a very competitive game.

Under 9’s:  In advance of the Under 20’s All Ireland Hurling Final, our U9s had a blitz against Na Piarsaigh in Caherdavin.  We had 2 teams and they both performed brilliantly showing great skill and enthusiasm. Thanks to all those that travelled to the blitz and to our hosts Na Piarsaigh for running a great blitz and for their hospitality. The evening was rounded off by many who attended the All Ireland U 20’s final to see Tipp pull off a great victory what a week it has been for hurling. 

Under 6’s: The Juvenile Club hosted an Under 6 Hurling Blitz on Saturday morning in Lacken Park. We had 16 teams in total from Newport, Nenagh Éire Óg, Ballina, Silvermines and Murroe-Boher taking part & they really enjoyed their morning's hurling. We would like to thank all the clubs who participated & helped to make an enjoyable morning for all the children. We would also like to thank all the parents for their help & support on the morning. It was really appreciated.

Juvenile Club Duck Race: Congratulations to Eithne Noone who won the two All-Ireland Hurling Final   Tickets and to our other prize winners Niall Caplis , Michelle Rafferty & Ronan Gaffery who won €150, €100 & €50 respectively. The club would like to sincerely thank all those who supported this fund raiser. It is really appreciated.

Congratulations: to Sean O’Brien & the Tipperary team on their fantastic win in The All Ireland Senior Hurling Final on Sunday. It completes a unique set of All Ireland medals for Sean who has now won  All-Ireland Under 16, Minor, Under 21, Intermediate & Senior medals.

Community Games: Well done to our Under 11’s Community Games Hurling team who won a silver medal in the All Ireland Finals last Saturday in UL.  Having beaten Oranmore from Galway in a very competitive semi-final, they lost out to a very good Dicksboro team from Kilkenny (runners up in 2018) in the final.  All of the players can be very proud of their performances throughout the competition and each player gave 100% in all of their matches. They were the first Newport team to bring both County & Munster titles in this competition to the parish and will no doubt have more success in the future. A big thank you to the management team of Hugh McLoughlin, Dave Roche, Dave Noone  & Keith McIntyre for all the work they have put in with the players, to the people of the parish who came on Saturday in such huge numbers to support the team & to Siobhan Kennedy, secretary Newport Community Games & all of the Community Games committee for all the work they do to promote the community games in the parish. 


Cùl Camp:  The Juvenile Club held their Cùl Camp last week with over 230 children participating and really enjoying the week's activities. The Club would like to thank Andy Ryan Tipperary GDA, head coach JP Grace and all the other coaches who helped to make it such an enjoyabe week for the children.

Also, a big thank you to all the volunteers who assisted each day and without whom the Camp could not take place.  A special thanks to Colette Collins and Cathriona O'Brien who worked tirelessly during the build-up and throughout the week to ensure the Camp was a great success. 
Looking forward to seeing all our players back at training next week and at Cúl Camp 2020.

Tipperary: The very best of luck to  Sean O’Brien & the Tipperary team in The All Ireland Senior Hurling Final this Sunday in Croke Park.

Community Games: We would like to wish our Under 11’s Community Games Hurling team the very best of luck as they take part in the All Ireland Finals this Saturday morning in the Maguire’s Field in UL. Their first match is a semi final v Oranmore from Galway @ 9:00 AM with the winners progressing to the final @ 12:30 PM v the winners of the other Semi Final between Dicksboro ( Kilkenny) & Ballincollig (Cork). The team had huge support in Tralee at the Munster finals, and we are asking everyone in Newport to come out & support the team on Saturday morning in the All Ireland Finals

Junior Hurling: Hard luck to our Junior Hurlers who despite a massive effort by all the players lost out to Borrisokane last Saturday evening in the North Semi Final by 1-13 to 0-14. We would like to thank both the players & the management team for all the work they out in throughout the year.

Under 16’s: We would like to wish our under 16 hurlers the best of luck in their North Quarter Final game away to Lorrha this Friday evening @ 7:00 PM.

Under 12’s: Hard luck to our Under 12 Group C hurling team who were beaten in their recent North Final V Kilruane by 2-05 to 1-08. We would like to thank the management for all the work they put in with the children throughout the year & the parents who took the time to take their children to their games.

Under 9’s held a hurling blitz in Lacken Park on Saturday morning. We had teams from Clonlara, Bruff & Maynooth taking part. They were very competitive matches & some excellent hurling played despite the weather conditions. A big thank you to all the clubs for travelling & to the parents who came to support their children & helped with the catering.

Under 7 & 8’s had five teams in Nenagh last Saturday for a Hurling Blitz in which they played teams from Nenagh & Toomevara.

Under 6’s had two teams in Nenagh on Saturday morning for a hurling blitz. They played teams from Nenagh, Toomevara & Burgess. A big thank you to Nenagh club for the invite & organising an excellent blitz.

Duck Race: The Juvenile Club will be running their annual duck race this Friday August 16th @ 7:00 PM at the bridge in Newport with a 1st prize of two tickets to the All-Ireland Hurling Final. Ducks can be purchased @ € 5 each from any Juvenile Committee member or manager. They will also be available for sale at The Cul Camp or at any of the Juvenile Club training sessions.

Sympathies: C.L.G. Tulach Sheasta extends our deepest sympathies to he Grant family on the passing of Pascal.  Ar dheis Lámh Dé go raibh a anam.

Under 16’s: Our under 16 hurlers had a good win in their final group match in the North Championship v Ballinahinch / Temlederry and have now qualified for the Quarter Finals which are due to be played next Monday evening August 12th.

Under 12’s: Our Under 12 teams played their North Semi Finals last week with all teams putting in excellent performances. The Under 12 Group C Team beat Portroe in their semi-final by 7-04 to 3-07 and qualified for the North Final v Kilruane MacDonaghs which was played in Toomevara on Monday of this week.  Unfortunately, they had to give best to KilruanePlease on a 2-08 to 1-05 scoreline.  Our Under 12 Group D team lost out to Borris-lleigh by 5-02 to 3-04. The Under 12 Group B team lost out to Moneygall in their semi-final by 3-06 to 1-08. Well done to all teams. We would like to thank the management for all the work they put in with the children throughout the year & the parents who took the time to take their children to their games.

Under 10’s: The under 10 hurlers travelled to Sixmilebridge on Friday evening for a match & put in a great performance. A big thank you to Sixmilebridge for the invite & to the parents who travelled to support their children.

Under 7 & 8’s: The Under 7 & 8's welcomed Cappawhite and Newtownshandrum to Lacken Park last Saturday morning. The kids played some great hurling against some really strong opposition and did the club and their coaches proud. Thanks to both teams for making the trip to us and an even bigger thank you to our wonderful parents for providing sandwiches and treats for our visitors.

Under 16’s: Our under 16 hurlers lost out to a very good Moneygall / Clonakenny team in last week's North Hurling championship match on a final scoreline of 3-17 to 2-14.  They played Ballinahinch / Templederry this Monday evening in their final group match and came away with a comfortable win, 6-10 to 1-4.

Under 14’s: Hard luck to our Under 14B hurlers who bowed out of the championship last Friday evening following their defeat by Borrisokane on a final scoreline of 2-11 to 1-08. We would like to thank the players & the management team for all the effort they put in this year & wish Borrisokane the best of luck in the rest of the championship.  

Under 12’s:  All three Under 12 teams have North Semi Final fixtures this week. Our Under 12 Group D team had to give best to Borris-lleigh on Monday evening, going down  5-2 to 3-4. The Under 12 Group C Team play Portroe on Tuesday evening. The Under 12 Group B team have an away game v Moneygall this Friday evening @ 7:00 PM in their semi-final. Please check our Facebook page for the result of these fixtures.

Under 9 & 10’s: welcomed Newtownshandrum & Burgess to Lacken Park on Saturday morning for a hurling blitz. The children really enjoyed their morning's hurling. A big thank you to both clubs for coming & to the parents who helped with the catering afterwards.

Under 16’s: Our under 16 hurlers drew with Burgess in their first round game of the North Championship in a well contested game on a final scoreline of Newport 5-10 to Burgess 2-19. They had to give best to  Moneygall/Clonakenny at Lacken Park on this Monday, score 3-17 to 2-14. They have an away game v Ballinahinch / Templederry in Shalee next Monday evening @ 7:00 PM.

Under 14’s: Our Under 14 Group C hurlers had a great win over Portroe in their final group match of the North Championship last Friday evening on a scoreline of 4-08 to 3-06. They have now qualified for the North Final where again Portroe will provide the opposition. The Under 14 Group B team play Borrisokane in their North Quarter Final match this Friday evening @ 7:30 PM in Lacken Park.  

Under 12’s: Well done to our Under 12 Group B hurling team who had a good win over Borrisokane (3-8 to 1-1) in their North Quarter final on Sunday evening. All three Under 12 teams have now qualified for the North Semi Finals which are due to be played next week. Please check our Facebook page for conformation of fixtures as they were not available at time of going to press.

Tipperary: We would like to wish Sean O’Brien & the Tipp hurlers the very best of luck in their All Ireland Semi Final V Wexford on Sunday.

Juniors: Our Junior Hurlers played two games last week with mixed results. On Tuesday evening they had a home game v Shannon Rovers which they won on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-11. They had an away game v Moneygall on Saturday and were beaten on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-11.

Minors: The best of luck to our minor hurlers who are due to play Silvermines this Thursday evening in the North Championship in Lacken Park @ 7:30 PM.

 Under 16’s: Our under 16 hurlers played the first round of their North Championship this Monday evening with an away game v Burgess. After an exciting encounter, the sides finished level on the score of Newport 5-10 Burgess 2-19. Star of the show was Stephen Coffey who scored 5 goals.  Their next game is at home to Moneygall / Clonakenny next Monday evening July 22nd @ 7:00 PM.

Under 14’s: Our Under 14 Group B hurlers had a good win in their final group match in the North Championship last week v Ballinahinch / Templederry and have now qualified for the quarter finals of this competition.  

Under 12’s: The three Under 12 teams played their final group matches last week. The Group D team had a good win over Borris-lleigh on Wednesday evening on a scoreline of 5-02 to 2-04 and have qualified for the North Semi Final. The Group B team were narrowly beaten by Borrisokane on Friday evening on a scoreline of 1-05 to 1-04. They have qualified for the play offs where they again will face Borrisokane. The Group C team played Shannon Rovers on Saturday morning and won a well contested game on a scoreline of 4-11 to 5-06. They play Ballina on this Tuesday evening in their playoff match in Newport, the result of which is available on our Facebook page.

Tipperary: Well done to Sean O’Brien & the Tipp hurlers on their win in their All Ireland Quarter Final v Laois last Sunday.  Congratulations to Daniel Egan & Niall Duffy who both recently lined out for the Tipperary Under 16 Footballers in a tournament v Clare.
