Under 8: Our players took part in a hurling blitz in Monaleen GAA Club last Friday evening. Our 2 teams played 4 great games and represented themselves and their club really well, in what was a hot summer's evening. Thanks to all who attended the games. Special thanks to Monaleen GAA and their U8 coaches and management for organising the blitz and for the use of their great facilities.

Under 14: We played Moneygall /Clonakenny in the North u 14 B final in Portroe last Wed night on a perfect pitch. Newport started slowly as we were behind to 5 points to one. Gavin Mellerick scored the Newport point. We broke up the field and Brian Tobin scored a goal after a one-two with Dan Ryan. After the kickout Diarmuid O Riordan scored a goal to put us to 2.1 to 5 points ahead at half time.  In the second half Diarmuid added a second goal to put us 5 points ahead but Moneygall /Clonakenny responded with a goal and 4 points to put them ahead but Newport would not give in.  Great defending by James Tobin, Aaron Coleman and Shaun Bonfield led to a pass by Shaun to Lee Ryan who ran from the 45 to score a great solo goal to give Newport a two-point lead. Moneygall/Clonakenny replied with a point to reduce the deficit but Newport held on to win 4.2 to 1.10. Squad: Mark Forde, Aaron Coleman. John Lee, Conor McHugo, James Tobin.
